Tour Two: Hong Kong Food Tour

Hong Kong is one of the world’s great food cities. This is the place to make a grand tour through the entire Chinese gastronomy. You can start with the city’s own cuisine: Cantonese. There is a vast fleet of dim sum wagons just waiting to deliver an incredible array of bite-size wonders right to your table. If you can tear yourself away from Cantonese, you can then take a spicy plunge into Szechuan cuisine, or the refined delights of Beijing cooking. And this is just the beginning: don’t forget Shanghainese, Chiu Chow and Hakka cuisine. Of course, as one Asia’s most cosmopolitan cities, you can also sample some up-to-the-minute Pan Asian fusion and international cuisine here.

I’ve designed a Hong Kong food tour that is the perfect introduction to the culinary wonders of the city. We start at a market, where you can see all the wondrous products that are used to create magic in the Hong Kong kitchen. After thoroughly exploring one of Hong Kong’s best produce markets, we stop for lunch to sample some truly excellent Cantonese dishes in a traditional Hong Kong atmosphere. After lunch, we stop into another market to check out yet more Hong Kong ingredients. In the afternoon we stop for refreshment in a traditional Hong Kong teahouse, where we sample some traditional Chinese beverages.

Along the way, your guide will explain the principles of Hong Kong and Chinese cooking, as well as providing provide you with information about the best places to continue your exploration of the world of Hong Kong cuisine, including maps and menu suggestions.

This tour takes approximately six hours and can be undertaken by anyone in reasonable shape. Taxis are used to cover longer distances between sites.
